About the Chronicles of War series... Phyllis Plattner's current work, Chronicles of War, is a series of multiple-panel anti-war paintings based on a broad range of art historic war imagery in conjunction with contemporary war news photographs. These warfare images are interspersed with small decorative panels of traditional and ethnic patterns, and are also contrasted with panels of putti, angels, babies, or mothers and babies. The format of the paintings is based loosely on renaissance altarpieces, both Italian and German, as well as on elements from Asian architecture. Each painting has an individual theme noted in the subtitle, but they all deal with the unfathomable prevalence of warfare and torture all over the globe throughout history. |
